I, too, often felt like there were concepts being discussed in library school that I didn’t understand, that were presented as “common knowledge,” and that I needed to do extra “personal” research just to keep up. With the perspective of a few years behind me now, I say that’s bunk, and we should expect the institutions where we’re spending thousands of dollars to teach us what we actually need to know, and not quietly compel us to do extra work.

    Let’s all resolve to hold our institutions accountable for this.
