We are delighted to announce that Hack Library School has welcomed new contributing writers. We were all very impressed with the range of interests and experiences that they will bring to the blog. Without further ado, here they are!
Katherine Dimmick
Katherine Dimmick is a third year student (about to enter her forth) studying a Bachelor of Information Studies at Charles Sturt University in Australia. The degree is part time and completely online. Currently she works as a retail store manager, but is actively looking for that elusive first job in the GLAM sector. Katherine’s dream job would be to work as a collection development manager and curator for rare and special collections. In her spare time between work and study she enjoys painting, cooking, and binge watching shows with her beagle. You can find her on Twitter at @katherine_myria.
Kellee Forkenbrock
Kellee Forkenbrock is an MLIS student at the University of Iowa (May 2023). She also works full time as the Public Services Librarian for the North Liberty Library (North Liberty, Iowa), assisting with the management of part-time staff as well as serving as the community engagement liaison for the library. Kellee has spoken about library outreach and engagement on behalf of organizations such as the Association for Rural & Small Libraries (ARSL) and the Entrepreneurship and Libraries Conference (ELC). In addition to pursuing her MLIS, Kellee is also in pursuit of a certification in Digital Humanities. Her twenty-plus years of professional experience includes project management, public relations, and multimedia advertising. Kellee is active in her community, having lent her service to the Iowa City Public Library Board of Trustees, Girls on the Run of Eastern Iowa, and currently as an Ambassador for the Iowa City Area Business Partnership. Shauna Murray
Shauna Murray has worked at Wood Buffalo Regional Library for over ten years in Reference and Information Services roles. She is currently completing her MLIS online through the University of Alberta, where she also obtained her Bachelor of Education with Distinction in 2015. She is passionate about critical literacy, community-led programs and services, fact checking, and diversity in collection development. Don’t talk to her about graphic novels unless you are ready to hear her wax poetic about the versatility of comics and how they are a format, not a genre! Her hobbies include needle-felting, printmaking, cosplay, and going on adventures with her dog Tegan. You can find her on Twitter and other social media @HideNGoShauna.
Delanie Rio
Delanie Rio is currently pursuing her Masters of Library Science with a concentration in archive studies through Emporia State University. She received her undergraduate degree in liberal arts with a minor in legal studies from Colorado State University in 2016, and has worked as a paralegal, a government administrator, and a transcriptionist in the years since. Her academic interests include older adult/nontraditional students, distance learning, information literacy, and self-led education. After completing her MLS, she hopes to pursue academic librarianship and/or archival work. She currently resides in her home state of Colorado with her dog, Luka, and bunny, Ollie, and enjoys camping, painting, and writing when she’s not curled up with a good book.
Lyndsay Wasko
Lyndsay Wasko is an online MLIS student at the University of Alberta with an undergraduate degree in Communication Design from the Alberta University of the Arts. Outside of school she works as a designer and illustrator at Daughter Creative, where her work has been internationally recognized in Applied Arts and Communication Arts publications. In 2020 she was selected as Calgary Public Library’s Children’s Illustrator in Residence which inspired her to pursue an MLIS degree. In her spare time Lyndsay enjoys long YouTube video essays, D&D, and generally aspires to the life of a Beatrix Potter animal: baking, sewing, gardening, and exploring nature. Taylor Worsham
Taylor Worsham is from Gunnison, Colorado and is currently pursuing her MLS from Emporia State University’s distance program. After studying communication and political science for her undergrad at Western Colorado University, she worked briefly in marketing communications before finding her true calling in working in public libraries. Her current position as an adult services coordinator for Gunnison County Libraries focuses on public relations, programming, collection development, and circulation. In the future she hopes to expand her career to include more outreach and leadership duties. Outside of work and school, Taylor enjoys spending as much time outside as possible, traveling, photography, and reading contemporary fiction.
Ashley Young
Ashley Young is a MILS student at University of North Texas living in Houston, Texas. After earning her English degree at University of North Florida, she spent five years working for the public library system in Jacksonville. After leaving and traveling for work extensively, she found herself in Texas at a small town library. She now works in Special Collections at the University of Houston and hopes to stay in an academic library setting after graduation. Information literacy and research is at the top of her priority list, but she is looking forward to her last year of coursework to gain more experience in other fields of library science. She also works as a part-time information science research assistant, and is active in a few student organizations at UNT. With the little time she has left, Ashley enjoys quick getaways camping or heads home to Florida for a visit. She also loves fostering kittens for a local rescue group and cooking suspiciously good vegan food. She’s fairly new to library Twitter and loves meeting new people @ashleylizoo
