Salem Press announces 2011 Library Blog Award winners (and we made the list!)

F.A. Cup Trophy

Yesterday Salem Press announced the winners of their Library Blog awards. We had known that we were nominated, and to be honest it had kinda slipped our minds until Turner got an email yesterday telling him that we won the Newcomer Blog award! We have been frantically sending congratulatory emails back and forth for like 16 hours now, and I (Micah) just sent an email to the team that read like a high school graduation speech. On top of that, we’ve “liking” the hell out of each others’ Facebook status updates. Its like a whirlwind of fantastic energy. Yup, we’re newbies, and we’re kinda freaking out at how cool this is. They’re gonna send us all plaques! (Do you think we could make the award image on our homepage any bigger? Cause we will!)

It’d be an understatement to say that we are honored to be included in the list with Sarah Houghton-Jan, Andy Burkhardt, Buffy Hamilton and the others. Our fellow winners are our liblogger heroes, and to be mentioned in the same webpage as them is like a dream come true. We’ve put a lot of effort into building this blog into a resource for students, as well as engaging with topics and issues across library land, and we’ll continue to do so. A huge thank you goes out to all our readers, and especially all of you who have written or will soon write guest posts. This is (y)our forum and award.

Here’s the full list:

General Library Blog: Librarian in Black

Public Library Blog: Swiss Army Librarian

Academic Library Blog: Information Tyrannosaur

School Library Blog: The Unquiet Librarian

Local Library Blog: Cecil County Public Library

Quirky Library Blog: A Librarian’s Guide to Etiquette

Newcomer Library Blog: Hack Library School (us!)

Commercial Library Blog: Neverending Search

Read about the Judges and a much better written review of the awards.

Enough with the hoopla — now lets get to work: Salem Press also has compiled an incredibly comprehensive Library Blog Directory. Open this Google Doc and let’s crowdsource digging through the blogs they’ve compiled and whittling them down into some manageable and useful RSS bundles, so that we can all subscribe to them automagically! Directions are in the GDoc.

Thanks to everyone!

  1. I have to say that Salem Press’ Library Blog Awards are an amazing tool (and I swear I’m not being biased). I fell down the rabbit hole of their directory yesterday, and it was awhile before I climbed out– with my feed reader stuffed!
